Let Me Be Me

A Metaphorical Poem

I am me.

I may not be who you want me to be.

I am not just what you see.

No, I am free.

No, I will not take a knee,

I won't just agree

while you sip your tea

and chop down trees

without hearing the pleas

please, please see

the debris,

this is not the key

to letting your soul free.

You need not go to this degree

to make your decree,

don't be carefree.

Be free,

but don't charge a fee

to let you be,

just see

and stop the chopping spree.

Stop seeing us as we,

and see us as you and me,

because I am me,

So let me be me.
