We are all hidden behind these feelings,
like masks
Women, even men have begun to cover their lips
with makeup
Their eyes are lidded with extra long lashes
to deter the attention away from the trouble
that is within
Don't listen too closely
Don't look too long
If you touch me you'll smudge this
mask I have hung
I want to wipe it all away
I want to see them for who they are
I'm tired of their promises
Their pretty words
They catch my ear for a time while their here
Later I learn hidden behind their backs was the very knife
that is now stuck in mine
So please don't speak unless you mean it
please don't smile unless you feel it
Don't pull any more strings on this
little life size doll
Less I scream
If I start to scream now,
I don't know when
I'll stop...
