Last Birthday Ever

Recurring Dream for 15 Years

Make a wish!

It happened again, waking me from the solace of sleep

Always uninvited during the witching hour

reoccurring since I was a teenager.

Candles burning fill the room with white smoke.

Only a couple familiar voices solicit me to make a wish,

sitting in my favorite armchair with burgundy leather.

I am being adored and plied with drinks.

The room becomes dark and cold, sends me spinning.

Feel some monster climb deep inside,

hungrily gnawing my heart away.

No lights, no sounds, no pain.

Start to swim in the darkness like it was water.

Whisper shatters the silence.

"Well, what did you wish for?"

I said quietly, "for it all to be over."

My eyes open, I am lying totally still.

Recall my big day is coming.

Less than three months away.

About the Creator

J M

I am just a man who enjoys seeing the darker side of life. I have been looking for a way to express myself and possibly assist others in the process by sharing my experiences and finally opening up trying to give myself more options.
