There are different ways to show love
There are different kinds of love
And I was once in love
I knew the second I found the attraction
My heart raced
my palms sweat
And I knew
this would be a distraction
But that didn't stop me from falling for you
Every second, minute, and hour flew
Because time was suddenly irrelevant
And with all the days, weeks, and months that passed
I grew more attached
Because the kind of love we had was passionate and strong
The kind that consumed my life and broke my heart when you were gone.
And I knew deep down this kind of love was wrong
But you were my addiction and I needed my fix
And we were so broken unable to be fixed
And I was so naïve to think that we were healthy for each other
But a passionate love is poison, not a cure.
I want a compassionate love, one with mutual respect, affection and intimacy
Where we can spend time together and also be content individually.
One that grows into a companionship that resembles a friendship,
Where our needs in life are shared equally
Where we both carry the baggage together, where we make that promise of our lives intertwined forever
Where we both know that I don't want to live without you and you don't want to live without me no matter what the situation is no matter how horrible it could be
We all deserve this kind of love and deep down you know it
Be compassionate, loyal, trustworthy, and affectionate and if you truly love someone make sure you show it, make sure they know it.
