Through My Own Eyes...

Kashmir

The land of my ancestors that I have never known,

I visited once, stopped and looked at the beautiful surroundings, my mind was blown.

I came home to England "Go back home you Paki", I got eggs thrown at me for being brown.

I spoke to a Kashmiri elder, I mispronounced a word, I was greeted with a frown.

Am I a British Kashmiri or a Kashmiri Brit?

Do I respond with disrespect and abuse or do I use my wit?

I could sit here disillusioned having watched my identities become unfurled,

Or I could capture the essence and get the best of both worlds.
