Just a Kiss

It was just a kiss, pure bliss and happiness;

an out-of-body experience that I would miss every day

until we once happened to meet again.

My friend, my love, my ever-after,

you fill our time together with love,

laughter, and devotion, going through our lives

in a motion paralleled by the ocean’s

tide, the waxing and waning,

comforting or complaining

as we often do.

Pulling and pushing, gravity cushioning

our rise and fall, but through it all we survived.

I’ve never been as alive as when I’m with you.

I want this, I need this, please believe this:

remember the bliss that was once

caused by a kiss and made you see

undoubtedly a future where we could

potentially be so bright, the sun’s light

would not shine and there would be

no sign or sight of darkness.

I would be yours, you would be mine,

reason or rhyme would not matter.

Rather, our love cannot be defined,

it’s out of space, out of time, but it certainly is real;

what I feel inside is true, I believe in me and you,

always and forever, together for this incredible adventure.

You say you’ll never leave, which I must believe,

for I let you in, let you see

all the crazy, scary, sad parts which belong

to me, but you said all that you saw was

passion, strength, and beauty.

I take my hand, intertwine it with yours.

“Till death do us part” slips from our lips;

the crowd roars. A bright smile takes form.

Tears start to quiver in my eyes,

as then arrives our matching rings,

which will represent our permanent bond

publicly, for all to see, forever and eternity.

Then I say “I do,” you say it too,

and then we are finally “We.”

And now it’s true, that there is

never a single day that goes by

where I regret kissing you.
