A Cliché, Yet Underrated, Leap of Faith

Do you feel it too?

That ever growing feeling of missing something?

The happiness you once had begging to expand its horizons

A look out to the water.

It’s calm.

Peaceful.

Full of seemingly endless possibilities.

You dip your foot in a bit.

It’s cold.

Unknown.

Uncomfortable.

What could be in there?

You look back on land, bombarded by the walkways that always bring you to the same place

The same people who told you to settle

A look back at the water

Nothing in the way except for the fear of what lies ahead

Still, you watch, hoping something will float to shore

And eventually something does

You take it as a sign

But it’s not what you expected

Everyday you walk the same path amongst the same people to the same shore

Everyday you think about what could happen if you took the leap

If only you had a boat

For sure that would be easier

A life of struggle plateauing at a short cut

A dream for easy access to another dream

What you once saw as a godsend shows its horns

What you once thought would be enough is now hardly filling

You think about the water again

Another dream that seems to require too much effort

Some 'friends' hold you back saying your ideas are crazy

Nothing so wonderful could happen to you

But the person least expected looks to you with a smile

And says that they’ll be right beside you

Enough is enough, you return, hesitant

You close your eyes, nervous yet excited

You stare far into the distance, shaking

But you jump.

It’s only the beginning and soon you’ll be wondering why you took this treacherous route

But years down the road when you’re stronger than ever you’ll wonder why you didn’t jump sooner.
