It’s Not an Excuse, It’s My Reason

A Poem

It's not an excuse,

That I need communication to feel heard and loved,

It's my reason.

It's not an excuse,

That I need constant reassurance because the next minute you may not love me anymore,

It's my reason.

It's not an excuse,

That I question every move I make due to fear of not being enough,

It's my reason.

It's not an excuse,

That I shut people out before they can hurt me or leave me,

It's my reason.

It's not an excuse,

That the reason I don't believe you is because I have heard that lie before,

It's my reason.

It's not an excuse,

That I'm jealous because I know you see the prettier girls and could want them instead of me,

It's my reason.

It's not an excuse,

That every time you lie I believe your truths even less,

It's my reason.

It's not an excuse,

That I choose not to worship the same God on Sunday that can't answer me any other day,

It's my reason.

It's not an excuse,

That I snoop and spy because I know what you hide,

It's my reason.

It's not an excuse,

That I beat myself up every night for the mistakes I made as a mother and wife that day because I want to be more,

It's my reason.

It's not an excuse,

That my life's events have caused me to assume the worst in everyone,

It's my reason.

It's not an excuse,

That I believe some days that I am stupid, ugly, fat, worthless, unloved, and unwanted because it's all I have ever been told by those who claimed to love me,

It's my reason.

It's not an excuse,

That I need attention, affection, and reassurance daily so I know you haven't changed your mind,

It's my reason.

It's not an excuse,

It's never an excuse,

It's my reason.
