It Is Okay

A Poem

We live in this world. With these people. There are many things that people suffer in this world. Many of these things are suffered by multiple people. You are not alone.

We are taught many things growing up. Many things are instilled in us as we grow. We are not allowed to be happy. But happiness is a choice.

In the morning, when the sun shines through the windows, gently nudging you awake with its soft rays.

When you take a long walk down the beach, and the salty air surprises your nose, and your feet feel the sand being wet by the ocean between your toes.

When you stand in the middle of a forest at night, admiring the stars and the crickets’ songs, feeling the soft breeze on your cheek.

When you stand atop a towering cliff, and feel the mightiness of the Earth, and realize how significant God is.

When you meet a person of peculiar character, who intrigues you, and who becomes one of your best friends.

When life becomes too much, and you cry your hardest, and your sister comforts you even when they might not understand.

When you go to a dance for the first time, you don’t know how to dance, until your dad teaches you.

When you go out on your first date, and he becomes your boyfriend, and your little brother is looking out for you constantly.

When the book you read ends well.

When a last minute plan ends up being one of the greatest memories of your life.

When your new sibling is born.

When you have enough money to pay the bills.

When you laugh until it hurts.

This is life. It is OKAY to be happy.
