Cutting off four inches
And framing my face with a fringe of new identities
I decided this sacrifice was necessary
Because I desired change.
My hair had been personified
Given a beautiful name
By a person I deemed worthy
At the time.
Since the change, I realise
That I was waiting for the next person
To search and find
Another name for my own prize.
Hypocritical it is
That I proclaim independence
Yet give unknown permissions
To a being allowed to be transcendent.
I should give this medal to me, my, I.
This poem is a plea to take control
Over my life.
And introduce Alice - my soft shield and my prime.
