Into The Night
A Poem Depicting Depression
Synapses attempting to fire,
Sputtering,
A feeble attempt at happiness,
Chemicals unbalanced,
A mind on the fritz,
I gasp for air as my head slips,
Under water only I can see,
Only I can feel,
A sharp inhale,
Bursting lungs,
I cry,
Loud wails rip into the night,
Wails only I can hear,
Sobbing silently into my pillow,
Crashing waves smother the sound,
The blankets are an ocean of emptiness,
Loneliness,
Legs under the covers,
Covered in seaweed, thick,
Tangled and dragging me down,
Into the night my screams have yet to be heard,
Understood for what they are,
My vastness,
My stretched-too-thin hands,
Scraping for something to hold tight to,
I fight for the surface,
Reaching for those synapses,
Sputtering feebly into the night.
