In Death

A Poem

They’ve sunken deep into her skull

And washed away into the cool ocean

Buried themselves in the sand

Under the coral and among the shells

They rest above dark circles

Of age and exhaustion and sorrow

I think it’s my sorrow not hers

Of knowing I’ll never see their gleam again

Until another life

Where she’ll remember our time here

Before her memories vanished

Like ghosts of a soul that’s passed

I hope she will be happy

Where the wind is blowing her now

But not as happy as she was

When she was with me on Earth

I guess maybe that is selfish

But what else can a man say

Whose wife’s been whisked away
