In Another Place in Time
An unrequited love poem.
In another place in time,
I'd be yours and you'd be mine.
Instead,
I count the times that you cross my mind,
while I lay restless in my bed,
with every single thought of you in my head.
I pray that this is the night I actually get some rest.
For sleep does not come easy,
to those who long for more.
As my mind races, 2AM, 3AM, 4.
I pray for just an ounce of peace.
Just one night, where you don't haunt me.
And I think to myself how nice it would be,
to be able to close my eyes and just sleep.
And I know I deserve better than to only hold you in my dreams.
Because dreams are never really as they seem.
It's just a scheme made up by my mind,
to trick me into thinking that you're mine.
And each morning when I rise,
wiping the sleep from my eyes.
To realize it was all but a dream,
alarm clock blaring.
I hit snooze.
Throwing the covers over my head.
in my queen sized, empty bed.
With myself, no one else.
I hit snooze.
Because for five more minutes,
I'm yours and you're mine,
In another place in time.
