Potentiality is venomous

it feeds uncertainty

the unpredictable

building a bond

between your future and fatality

a path to self-sabotage

one that you so naively follow

mistaking it for salvation

as did Hansel and Gretel

with the gingerbread house

for they walked straight toward

the one who had the power

to end them

slowly

and

painfully

but they could not see that

for they were blinded

by a delusive sense of security

of having found a safe haven

as when one mistakes lust for love

and is suddenly stripped of hope

and left with one's deeply-rooted

thoughts of potentials

with the one that got away
