If You Come Across a Boy

A Poem

If you come across a boy

that dons jeans (skinny),

and shirts (plaid),

that looks through you

with deep, haunting eyes,

steer clear of him.

If he has a passion for music

and a want for sex,

you run the other way, baby.

I have fallen for their kind,

I have dived to the bottom.

I have drowned,

and parts of me have died.

I have wept for boys like this.

And where I once felt a need,

I now feel an ache.

They have undone and sewn me

back together again,

so that I could tell the tale to girls like you.

You won’t be the same after this.

If you come across a boy

that uses his words

to win your love,

steer clear of him.

If you come across a boy

that makes you feel beautiful,

but says it like its your name,

maybe he doesn’t care about your name.

Run the other way.

Boys like this are dangerous

and you will fall for them in a heartbeat,

the heartbeats that quicken,

just like I did.
