If You Ask
A Poem Full of Pride, a Notion to the Wise
depression cried
as my pride sighed in
“I can do it all on my own”
home alone,
fragmented thoughts postponed
and rocketed into the universe of the conscious.
mind in overload.
square one feels like I’m jumping
over boulders.
dark times.
a parked mind
in a vacant lot of hard knocks.
knuckles planted
firmly against the
charred bark.
a forest in flames.
maintain.
the power to maintain
and drop the old habits of
doing the same thing
easy to feel shame
opponents
in blame games
contrary to the change
of gears
it’s fear up in the
stratosphere.
unearthly sounds
are what you hear.
in the midst of abandonment
something grabs you near.
shhh
quiet is the silence
that pours out of your mind.
the cries of the silent
have ceased to be aligned.
in tune are you that’s
through with holding the
presence of your past.
for it bears no gifts,
just a faithful pain
that’s sure to last if you ask.
