If We Fly Together

Illustration: Me

I am a caged bird.

All of the birds-like me;

red and black,

yellow and white,

violet and green,

colorful and all,

are beautiful and unique.

And fly free...

My uniqueness costed,

my freedom.

I am a strong bird.

“Birds of a feather flock together.”

But I can’t be with you.

“We stick with one another,

mate wise; with the wings of a

sharp falcon and a bald eagle.

The joy of a canary,

tweets of kindness.”

But leave me here,

for you to be free.

I am a wise bird.

I sit, swing, eat,

and grow strong.

I know the truth and wisdom

of life.

Once I betray them, I tell them: I’m free.

Go ahead and try to

catch me again.

Break me down like you always did.

If you see me in this cage again, my darling,

don’t worry, I’ll find you.

So we can again

fly together forever more.

But for now, I’ll

sit here in shame.

Tunes of sorrow.

For the truth of who I am,

can wash away so

it won’t taint you.

My love.
