If only
If only we could put the guns down
If only we could put the knives down
If only we could watch our words
Isn't it said to treat how you wish to be treated
So why
What causes create such devastation
How can one bring themselves to react in such a way
With destruction
Without even thinking about the harm it causes
The pain of pulling the trigger
The aftershock that it brings
More chaos it creates
Where revenge is sought after
Just like the phrase of an eye for an eye
It only creates for a world to be blind
Where the pointing of the finger
Just makes everything okay
A he said
She said kind of moment
But where is the real justice
Is it just lost
Stored in a chest under the sea
Full of the eyes
Taken by greed
What happened to the beauty
Where we said good job
Or even thank you
Where we took the time to understand
To think things through
Just like the song Imagine
Everyone living for today
Where the only real thing that needs any worry
Is the love that you can bring
Can we find that place
Where joy can be shared
Back to when you could trust your neighbor
And even ask to borrow a cup sugar
Or is that gone too
If only we can put the gun down
If only we could put the knives down
If only we could watch our words
If only we could lift people up
If only we could lend a helping hand
If only
