I Was Told...

A Poem

I was told “you’re never gonna be good enough”

I was told “you’re pretty for a black girl”

I was told “sexual harassment was your fault”

I was told “you should’ve never stuck up for yourself, cause now you’re the one in trouble”

I was told to “let ignorant white racist talk down on me”

I was told “you’re never going to be the person you want to be”

People in society have a way of being each other down. We are taught to fend for ourselves we are taught survival of The fittest. It doesn’t matter if you step all over someone while climbing your way up to the top. As long at you reach the top you’re fine. Why can’t we help each other rise to the top. Give each other a helping hand. Link arms and create a chain. Why do we have to be so selfish and stuck up. There are people here in this world that are willing to love. You never know who you will encounter. Your future boss, best friend, or long lost brother. If we continue on this path, we’ll face each others wrath. And personally I don’t want that.

I will be the one to tell “I am a strong independent, beautiful HAITIAN smart future neurologist. And there is nothing that will stop me.”
