I Was Cleopatra.

A Poem

i was cleopatra

with love in my veins

and

wholeness in my heart.

you were mark antony

with fire in your hands

and

rocks in your mouth.

we called it love,

what we felt so buried within.

only,

it wasn’t love,

just horrid sin.

we wrapped around each

other like

vines bent on forever,

only,

forever had come and gone.

i could’ve poisoned you

a hundred times had i

been able to live without

you.

you were butterflies

in the back of my throat.

i let you suffocate.

you created a smile,

a curve on each end.

it was something I felt a thousand times,

but you gave it meaning.

but soon, you smiled for different reasons.

full of deceit and lies.

home away from home

became a cage for the one

you professed to love with your whole heart.

you pulled the raw strings

from within my stomach

and wrapped them around your

hands.

it was your piece of me,

your trophy.

you have it still.

heartbreak
