I'm Scared That You Think of Them

A Poem

I'm scared that you think of them

The ones before me that were lucky enough to have you

I'm scared that you miss them when you're upset at me

That you wish that you could rewind the clock and reverse everything that made you want to leave

That you regret leaving and think of them often.

I'm scared that when you look at me you try to find pieces of them within my eyes

I'm scared that I can't be as good as they were

Or that there's a little part about me that isn't what you want

That one day you'll take the longer way home just because you're sick of me and you promised you wouldn't leave.

That you'll soon push me away and make me think that it's my choice to leave but really it was yours

I'm scared of all these things but really what I'm scared of the most is for the next girl to feel this way while you're looking at her trying to dig out pieces of me
