I Love You

Three of the Scariest and Most Beautiful Words to Say and to Hear

This is a poem that I wrote for my husband. It tells the story of the first time we said "I love you" to each other.

I will always remember that beautiful night,

Looking at you as the stars shined bright,

Gazing into each other's eyes,

And telling each other little white lies.

Things that seemed so inconsequential

Like what was on your mind,

Quickly turned into our biggest secrets

That we would share in time.

It's funny how scary it really can be

To say thee simple words,

But you forced me to say it first to you,

You silly little nerd!

My heart was beating so dang fast

I thought it might explode,

You asked me what I was so scared of

When your answer was already known.

But there was still that part of me

That, even though I knew,

Was still a little terrified

To say those words to you.

But I'm so glad that I moved past

Those silly fears of mine,

Memories of heartbreak and love gone wrong

Left dancing through my mind.

I looked into your eyes so green

That shined just like the moon,

And whispered the words, "I love you",

And you smiled and said, "I love you, too!"

I am so grateful that I found you, babe,

And that God gave me to you!

I have never felt quite like this before,

But it's a wonderful brand new!

I know our journey is just beginning

But it feels like it began so long ago,

How on earth did I live so long without you?

How? I do not know.

Now when I am with you,

It feels like I found my missing piece,

And all that I didn't know I was missing,

I found with just one kiss!

I love you! Gosh, I love you!

I love it when you say those words to me,

I love you, how I love you!

I love how you are everything to me!
