I looked for you,
But you were gone.
In a desperate search,
Maybe seeking closure,
Or the nearly forgotten feelings,
That still smolder,
Though they are quickly burning out,
I looked for you,
But you were gone.
I thought maybe by visiting,
All the places,
We used to spend our time,
I could find what was lost.
But we no longer occupy,
The same old haunts.
Only dust and memory,
Are left in those places.
Where we grew up,
Learned about love,
And about loss.
Figured it out,
Whatever it was.
We laughed and cried,
But at least for awhile,
We needed nothing else,
What could compare?
So in my nostalgia,
I went back,
Not expecting anything,
Or to find you there,
But hopeful anyway,
Like nothing had changed,
And I looked for you,
But you were gone.
