I'll Love Him

A Daughter’s Journey to Love Her Father

It's hard when someone you are a part of is so different from you.

I don't just mean our interests or music taste although those differ too.

I mean when he is drunk and mean and just taboo.

But no matter what I'll still love him.

I used to see him as smart and carefree now all I see is a wannabe.

I wanted to be just like him, he loved me. Not anymore, I don't need that negativity.

But I'll love him

Why are you so racist and intolerant?

Tell me what started it?

You're uneducated and a cheat and yes I remember how you beat us all down.

But despite that I'll love you because I remember the good times.

When you took me to the shore and I was so sure that life would always be like this, full of happiness.

And when you bought me Dairy Queen and told me I was your queen.

That was the first time I remember saying to him I'll Always Love You.

And that is still true.

Because he is still my father.

So I'll love him.

About the Creator

Mary-Beth Shelley

Just a girl who loves Jesus, writing, and being overly dramatic. What's the deal with being normal anyway?
