I Like to Laugh

A Poem

I like to laugh

Most times I laugh harder at the fact

that, simply, I am laughing.

Laughing is comforting sometimes.

For example, near death experiences

that scare you so bad you have to laugh.

I laugh at jokes, life, and the clumsy acts

of adolescent screw ups.

I laugh when I don’t mean it.

Don’t get me twisted,

I like to laugh.

but sometimes I laugh only at the fact

That, simply, everybody else is laughing.

I mean, I hear the sound,

but I can’t seem to feel it’s joy.

At least not anymore...

The happiness within sweet smiles,

I cannot find in myself any longer.

It’s not that I’m sad, or lonely,

I like to laugh…

But laughing is a sound I hide behind.
