I Know Who You Are

A Tale of the Destruction of a Modern-Day False God

Who are you? What are you? Why are you here?

What makes the universe think my life is better by having you in it?Why can't you just let me be free of your shackles? When did you turn into my master and I your servant?

All you ever do is linger as a lost soul, floating from room to room;Your spirit changes hands between listlessness and complacency.Life passes you by as it floats with the dead in Hades;Your soul cries as you watch because you have lost your purpose.

In retaliation you hurl lightning bolts like those of Zeus, but as words and moments of purposeful silence.Everywhere there are reminders of you and the horror you bring; even with you as trapped as the Titans, I know you shall escape and return to bring calamity.

As a pirate steals through the night to find their reward, so do you steal through life leaching off of other's pleasure and joy;Never giving anything back in return, except for wounds that will not heal.

How did you come to be this way?How did you get to be so lost?

I do not think I wish to know;knowing is too powerful a weapon for you to use in your favor.Even though your power is to inspire a trembling anger,I refuse to pay homage to your idol.

You can throw all the lightning bolts you wish,And watch as life flows down to Hades,But you will grow weak as the power you once thought to have is denied you.I will no longer feed you offerings of anger, fear, loathing, or hurt;It does not matter who you are, how you came to be lost, or what your purpose is;I know what you are not:

My parent.

About the Creator

Elizabeth Adolphi

As a child I had a flair for the dramatic; as an adult, the flair has turned into a subtle, yet continuous hum. I love to see the world through different scopes and to tell stories based on the takeaway. Cheers!
