I hold his hand and squeeze it tight

Tell him everything’s gonna be alright

I tuck him in bed, snug and tight

Leave on the hallway light

I kiss my daddy goodnight

I see the love in his old gentle eyes

The pride, then fear as he cries

I wipe the tears he tries to fight

Tell him everything’s gonna be alright

I kiss my daddy goodnight

Growing up, he’d hold my hand and squeeze it tight

Telling me everything’s gonna be alright

He’d tuck me in bed, snug and tight

Leaving on the hallway light

And I’d kiss my daddy goodnight

When the closet monsters came with a fright

He’d come running in the middle of the night

Check the room and hug me with all his might

Telling me everything’s gonna be alright

And I’d kiss my daddy goodnight

One last time our eyes lovingly meet, his time is near

With a shaky hand, from my cheek he wipes a tear

He smiles, and with his last breath before the light

Tells me everything’s gonna be alright

I kiss my daddy goodnight
