I Feel Like We Need This

I feel like we need this.

A boisterous voice spreading songs of unconditional love across different shades of skin and seas,

with a tone full of conviction, reliability,

and soft whispers of reassurance in the wind,

saving the lives of the falling stars desperate to enter the other side.

I feel like we need this.

An embrace from the unknown,

exposure to everything we grew up to fear and hate,

the acceptance and warmth of a soul who chooses to celebrate what gender we choose to love,

and notices how we contribute to international smiles instead,

while their fists are raised with pride next to ours in the air before a big fight.

I feel like we need this.

A leader from the promise land,

with battle scars of the wars fought emotionally and physically,

while still harboring resilience and sheer force of will to win for the silent people with hands wrapped around their bleeding throats,

a beacon of humbleness waiting to burst from the hearts of the bravest of soldiers.

I feel like we need this.

The words 'you're not perfect' to be erased from the mirror we look into every day,

a comfort so deep within our cores we would have no need for society's confirmation of beauty,

or the validation of a person who's focus will never be to figure out how you shine so bright with all of the darkness anchoring you down.

I feel like we need this.

The courage of the youth who never settled for the ignorance they were taught to prance around with,

and the wisdom of the generations that came before us,

who used their rebellious chapters in history to teach us to cut off any preconceived notions of what it means to be human,

while throwing away the manufactured traditions and opinions passed down to the future.
