I Don't Understand
A Love Poem I Can't Make Sense of
I don't understand
how the strand of your hair
keeps me captivated
as it falls by your nose
push it back past your ear,
disarray is always better
I know that,
but still
I don't understand
how the joy in your eyes
and the white of your smile
keeps me lost for a while
Though your words aren't complex
and your body screams sex
Still your soul is complete
and I'm whole
It's the glint in your eye
the nerves in your love
the overconfidence of your unsure hands
as they track the curve
of my back
hesitating
to take what they want
And that's me?
I don't understand
