I Am Not the Person I Ought to Be

"They view me as beautiful and kind..."

I am not the person I ought to be.

They view me as beautiful and kind,

But in all honesty, I am anything but.

I will learn your favourite songs on piano,

And recite your favourite quotes.

I will love you in unexplainable ways

So, that when someone else can explain their fascination with you,

You will not feel whole.

Their final answers and set thoughts will not intrigue you anymore.

I will lock my fingers within your hair and play your heartstrings like a harp.

I will introduce you to the beauty that dances on your skin.

I will waltz with the thoughts you believed nobody cared about.

I will be waiting for you every time you decide to return.

And then,

I won't.

You will be left wondering whether my words were ever true.

Whether I ever truly knew how to dance.

If I stole a moment or I stole that chance.

No one will be waiting for you.

And like my love for you,

It will be unexplainable.
