birds fly away while we
flock towards destruction.
they’re afraid of disaster,
we are made up of it.
now the whole world is
screaming. a hopeful sound.
with our feet on the ground,
heart still saved in the cloud.
i mean, what’s really important?
we ignore it.
all we care about is flexing
on a screen
that’s made of glass
and may be cracked
but we adore it.
our vision’s shattered.
what really matters?
is it:
how many followers you have
or the fact:
the government is stomping
on our flowers?
this world is ours, we just
spend too many hours
looking down.

Pints & Parkruns: Jubilee, Spennymoor
If MC Escher created a parkrun, it might look a bit like Jubilee. Based in a compact – but surprisingly lovely – park in the small County Durham town of Spennymoor, it twists and turns its way up repeated hills. Although basic physics says it must come down again, somehow this route never feels like it gives runners a proper descent.
