Honk and Tonk

At first, it was innocent,

I did not see it coming

The casual steps that passed

The gentle pains start numbing.

A weekly trip it started

To become more than once

As minutes turned to hours

And hours turned to months

But before I could not stop it

I was waiting for a chance

To leave a bag behind

To earn that longing glance.

So eventually the first step managed

Now to wait so patiently

To hope my work has flourished

The opportunity came to knock

So we grasped it as we could

And went along the way

Honk and Tonk later

To see where we could know

We couldn’t let it go

For your friends to make a dare

Late nights sneak to dawn
