Hidden Within

What Depression Looks Like

On the outside,

Everything is put together.

Hair nice and neat,

Makeup on fleak.

Planning a trip,

A getaway next week.

Going about the day.

With our masks nice and neat.

Nothing seems wrong.

Nothing out of place.

On the inside,

What a difference we are.

Inside we don't speak.

Hiding how we feel,

Hiding all the pain.

All this loneliness

We constantly feel.

Unable to say,

Not even a word.

We're supposed to be perfect.

We're supposed to feel happy.

How would people react?

To someone who seems so strong,

Someone who seems so stable.

Wanting to die?

Wanting the voices to end?

Wanting it all to end?

We're supposed to be strong.

We're not supposed to bend.

Yet here we are,

All those things and more.
