Hellfire
Personal Experiences Leading to Poetry
When you first came into our lives,
we didn’t realize
how important you would become.
We joked about you being part of the both
of us, so we wrote
you into our story, eager to see
where our friendship would lead.
Little did we know though
that soon you’d fall so deeply
into your own thoughts.
You’d lose yourself completely.
Almost.
You would almost
lose yourself completely.
The calls in the middle of the
night would never bother us.
And neither would the company.
What killed us indefinitely?
Your constant pain.
We could see your spirit dying.
And we were so worried your body
would be following.
You were in a burning building at this point.
and she just kept throwing gasoline.
Flinging it everywhere. She didn’t want you to breathe.
But we did.
We were your face masks.
For a while we stayed that way,
helping you breathe through the smoke-filled day.
But finally we knew.
We needed to be the friends that saved you.
So we ran into the flames of hell,
Ready to fight for your sanity.
We didn’t know what it would entail
But we couldn’t leave you dying
anymore.
So we dragged you out of the fire
just before the building came down
A large explosion casting hellfire
into the already crimson skies.
We pulled you to safety
And you finally took a breath
of fresh air, and the life seem
to come back to you
as the death left screaming.
