Heartbreak

Mental Health Poem

You never think of the word “Heartbreak” literally

Until your own heart is shattered.

Until you feel every bruised piece of your heart fall to the ground,

Every individual shard of glass cutting you from the inside out.

And you scream in pain;

You beg for it to stop tearing itself apart,

But no one can hear you over the sound of their own

Healthy,

Happy,

Beating hearts.

Your screams are useless.

You have reached the point of no return,

And it is far too late to change anything,

Or to try to mend your heart.

It’s too late to stop the suffering.

And deep down you know that your cries are hopeless,

And that nothing you say or do matters anymore.

Because everything you say and do has passed its expiration date;

The importance of your words have gone bad,

And now,

They mean absolutely nothing.

When you reach the point where the word “Heartbreak” is taken literally,

That is when you go out to find someone new;

Someone who will take away the pain,

Fix you,

And then rip you apart all over again,

Leaving your broken heart with deeper scars than before.
