Heart on Loan

Poem

If it doesn't matter how well you get along with someone, or how much you have in common,

How easy it is to talk to them, and get lost in their eyes...

And if it doesn't matter how attracted you are to them and if the sex is great,

Then what determines if you're in love?

If someone is good to you and cares for you, has never hurt you, or abandoned you,

If it doesn't matter that they were always there for you,

Then tell me how do you determine if you're in love?

Is love no more than lust? Just a feeling you get in the moment?

Is love just a feeling as fleeting as happiness? Just a mood that can change at whim?

Do we get the love that we think we deserve? But when there's someone worthy we look the other way...

It is a choice we make, but we stick with who we know is bad for us.

There's just something so hard about letting go when you want so much more.

But if all they do is take, and all you do is give,

This is not love...This is your heart on loan.

And just like a bank you pay interest, with wasted time and the broken pieces.
