Healing Is Not Linear
A short poem about the peaks and troughs experienced during recovery from mental illness.
there are times in life where there is sadness,
it seems to come from nowhere,
for no real reason at all.
it strikes you when you least expect it,
forces you to feel it,
makes you stop what you were doing.
the sadness waits for you to come home,
waits for you to take off the mask,
the one you’ve been hiding behind all day.
it brings with it a torrential downpour of every emotion,
every experience,
every feeling,
just when you thought you’d forgotten.
if you didn’t question your existence before,
the sadness will make sure that you do,
it will overcome you within a single second,
it will make sure it becomes you.
there are times in life where there is sadness,
you grow accustomed to it,
for no real reason at all.
it manifests itself into your daily routine,
becomes normality,
makes you stop doing what you love.
there are times in life where there is sadness,
but we learn to fight back,
to keep the sadness in the background,
make it stop controlling our lives.
HEALING IS NEVER LINEAR
