He only was a gaze, a name and half a face

And no one there quite knew the way to phrase

For he only was a gaze.

He only was a word and a halfway open door

That, close approaching one could see a crack that showed the world

But he only was a word.

He only was a clue, a glimmer and a hue

Of something far beyond what once was true

But nothing comes to you

Though mute gazing at a clue

Or a word or door or hue -

. . . challenge what is true;

That’s what he wants for you.
