He and She

By losing her, she lost him.

He turned a blind eye.

She found love somewhere else.

He grew apart from others and

she struggled to come to terms with herself.

He did things that scared him.

She got mixed up in dangerous thrills.

He forgot about plans made months previously.

She stumbled over her heels.

He drank each night away.

She cried herself to sleep.

He could not utter a single word and

she wouldn’t speak.

He looked lost…

…she looked so out of place.

He poured another and

she found tears on her face.

He turned a blind eye once again and so

she just turned to the door.

He quickly stole a glance at her…

…she still had the bruises on her jaw.

He poured another,

she just stayed away…

…he didn’t even call…

She knew it would always be this way.

He wanted to forget and he knew

she wouldn’t leave.

He had lost his mother and

she knew what it was to grieve.

He clutched at her,

she stroked his hair.

He lay with her peacefully…

…she knew these moments were rare.

He stayed asleep,

she was already dressed.

He faced another lonely day and

she faced another life test.

He poured another…

…she went for a walk.

He just sat there and stared…

…she knew she had to talk.

He continued to stare.

She tried to smile.

He poured another…

…she said she’d be home in a while.

He had almost finished the bottle and

she was almost at the door.

He felt everything fading and there

she found him on the floor.

He wasn’t breathing…

…she knew he had left this life.

This now sadly concludes our story

of the negligent husband

and the finally broken wife.
