Hypo-Plastic Left Heart Syndrome

Half A Heart

Let me tell you about my miracle,

He stands just two feet tall,

He has overcome great odds

Although he may be small.

He has fought all his life

To have a chance to live,

To play and laugh and run and cry,

To show his love and give.

He fought at birth with all his might

and even all his breath,

When they thought he gave it all,

He still had more left.

He lay on a table for eight hours,

His heart in a surgeon's hands,

No one's hands ever stood so still

as those surgeons hands.

I sat in a waiting room with baited breath

I've never felt so scared,

Till a nurse came out to say

That his heart had been repaired.

It wasn't all he'd need, oh no

He still had more to come,

He'd need at least one more

As long as he wasn't troublesome.

So he fights a daily battle

Just one we cannot see,

Fighting every single day

To just be alive and breathe.

So, when you see my hero

Don't be filled with pity or strife.

He may only have half a heart

But he lives a full life.
