Greek Childhood

Poem

I really liked Greek mythology as a kid

It was familiar

I wish Artemis and Apollo were my siblings

the only child syndrome amplified

Alone on my rock

Buzzards eating at my guts each night

each morning I painfully recover

Cut the testicles of my father

and hope that Love grows in their place

Jealousy, her name is mother

Blame it on the maidens, Hera

"Zeus was just drunk when he did that"

Perhaps I shouldn't hitch my shirt up

Expose my waist

In 96 degree heat

Something revealed that I am not a part of

All I can see,

From all angles,

a mere belly button

and sweat

I'm nine

Excuse

The god of torment

It is in his nature

And yours

Mom decides to tear out her eyes

But the prophetic vision of Oedipus evades her

She lays in the Cave of Hypnos

sleeps

Drinks from the river Lethe

Quenching the ways to forget

Culpability

Her faked strength

She drowns in it
