Grateful to Be Here

Back to school Poem

I dislike being shoved in the halls with thousands of other students

Getting lost and bumped around

Just to be even more lost in class with the other 33 classmates

Instead of work I can only think about the future you keep reminding us about

I don't want to be here, but I'm grateful to be here

I dislike the lenient dress code that covers its eyes when girls in tube tops and the shortest shorts walk by

Even if the flames are boring down on campus it will never be that hot

Never that hot that the football players need to take their shirts

We know they spend their time on the bench press

I don't want to be here, but I'm grateful to be here

I dislike the uncertainty of knowing if the information given to me is useful

And that my good grades will make me content

In a two story house with a husband and baby on my hip

I don't want to be here, but on behalf of the kids who can't due to the terrible cards they have been given I am grateful to be here
