Gone

Without You

These broken wings won’t learn to fly

These tired eyes are too dry to cry

These ruptured lungs won’t make a sound

This broken heart won’t hold me down

These empty words won’t bring you back

Won’t stitch the holes, leave me intact

I miss your face, I need you now

I can’t pretend I don’t know how

I can’t pretend that you’re still here

I can’t feel you anywhere near

I miss your smile, I miss your laugh

I feel I’ve been torn in half

I can’t go on without your light

I can’t can’t see through the dark of night

These tired hands can’t pray to bring you back

These stiffened legs won’t bend, just crack

These ribs make it hard to sing

This battered body won’t do a thing

This tragic life for me will go on

This tragic life with you gone.

About the Creator

Leah Burton

I am a mother, a wife, an aspiring writer and my family is everything to me. I can be a little dark sometimes and somewhat twisted as my husband would say, but it keeps things interesting. I hope to write a great book one day. Until then...
