Ghosts

I walk these halls

Surrounded by familiar faces

That are not so familiar anymore

Kids I used to know and play with

Are now ghosts of people i see

Faces that I used to know, whisper terrible treacheries to each other about one another

These faces of children, who used to share secrets and sing along to songs with familiar tunes

Now, pretend they never knew each other

As if they've pressed clear on the memories they shared together

These ghost of people who used to be children

Broken by petty arguments, assumptions, and broken rumors

These ghost of people, I knew once

Who have accused, assumed, and betrayed

These ghosts have done horrible deeds

And have spread horrible rumors

Broken wonderful friendships

And have broken one another

Again and again

All for the gain of popularity

The gain of being liked and praised

The gain of one more like or one more follower

All for being accepted by Society

To try to fit into an impossible mold of perfection, that will never be attainable

These children with familiar faces that aren't so familiar anymore.
