Gentle Fall of the Patriarchy

A poetic musing on breaking down the system of patriarchy.

The patriarchy,

built on lies

and the demise

of the feminine power.

I raise hands

and give thanks

for the hour

we have reached

that has asked

for a rise

in the matriarchal strength.

This strength,

this power,

has always been present,

it could never be eradicated

or burnt on a stake.

Because little did the patriarchy know,

a woman sows her seeds

even in the time of death.

Her spirit soars and gains,

and as the rains fall down

and mix with the tears

of those of us still

stood on the earth,

we give birth

to a new generation

of true power and strength.

We have never allowed

ourselves to be completely restrained,

as we kept love in our hearts

even through the biggest hurts

of murder and rape.

We’ve always known

what we were being shown

was a false way of living,

an evil way of giving

the gifts with we have been blessed.

Dear patriarchy,

you may have succeeded

at crushing me for a moment in time,

I may have felt the heaviness

of how you trample through this world,

but I give you my word,

I will never be defeated

by another’s use of external power

because as a true creator of peace

I have turned my focus inward

and I see the beauty and grace

that could never be erased

from deep within my soul.

I will grow old with the scars

you have left impacted

on my body and psyche

but my spirit and soul

will remain intact

and I will continue to blossom

and grow

and know that I am held

by sisters and mothers

and men too

who care for equality

over power and external gain.

I will remain

on this path of being woke

and using my words

to speak aloud

what I know to be fair.
