Just a Poem

Circa Forever Ago

Why do I listen to that song you sing,

In my ears it never fails to ring.

I find myself humming the same tune,

Like an old deranged little loon.

“Do not covet thy neighbor’s wife”

Even if she’s the ticket to my life?

She’s fruit of the poisonous tree,

Never more ready to pay that fee...

My nostalgic illusions of grandeur

When I thought I was your savior.

Can’t look without saying I love you,

Can’t breathe without you by me too.

Right here, right now, I’m defined,

Will I be so inclined or more kind?

Lord, what do you forecast?

Will I choose the future or my past?

These are my trials and tribulations,

And with it I gain new revelations.

For myself I’ll make a name,

Put this old flame to shame,

Or else I’ll never be the same.
