Forgotten

A Poem

It always starts with forever.

You made a promise to be by my side.

I let you into my world.

You said you would stay.

I believed you.

But then, it all changed.

A smile that once shined brightly.

A skip in the step turned to dragging feet.

A laugh became cries.

But you never asked.

Tank tops and t-shirts turned to sweaters.

Shorts and skirts turned into pants.

Summer, spring, winter, and fall,

Her excuse is always "I'm just cold."

You didn't second guess it.

Used to be lively but now appears dead.

Used to see life in colour.

Now everything is black and white.

You know it too.

But you push her away. Act as though you weren't friends.

You lied.

You're gone.

But so is she.

If you didn't know,

She is me.

And as I am, how I've always been.

I am,

Forgotten.
