Forever Crumbling

How can you feel at peace when it always feels like you're a moment away from losing it all?

On the surface, I appear content

My countenance free of creases or strife

My eyes are a clear reflection of color

My voice, rarely used, displays no ache

Little does one know the darkness that lies within

Or the scars that lie behind my well-worn mask

The cracks are there, but are nearly undetectable

And yet I find myself thinking, "Why does no one see?"

Even in the loveliest of palaces or in the softest of clouds,

Every waking moment is spent in fretting agony

My muscles are tensed, as if a mere movement will sever my tendons

My heart aches like a cold, unforgiving blades were wedged into the veins

All I want is peace, relief

Anything to bring solace to my weathered soul

My heart, cracked and jagged as a broken mirror

The shards left behind giving off reflections of normality

Desperate to prevent others from seeing the inner weakness

Will ever a moment come of simple serenity--

Or will this fool be forever lost within clouded worry?
