For You

A Poem About Someone Close to Me

For you

For you I'd succeed but for myself I'd only try

Poisonous self doubt

Beautiful, imperfect you

To you I'd listen but for myself I'd only guess

Rough drafts of song

Beautiful, innocent you

With you I'd smile but with myself I'd only blink

Unscathed silhouettes of remembrance

Beautiful, inexperienced you

For you I'd despise but for myself I'd only ignore

What I've learnt to repent

Beautiful, unmatchable you

For you I'd fly but for myself I'd only fall

Down, impaling on a hurtful landscape

Beautiful, dangerous you

For you I'd run but for myself I'd take my time

Listening to sounds of surrounding life

Beautiful, impatient you

For you I'd love but for myself I'd give up

As I can never be with someone who is

Beautiful and so out of reach as you
