For I Consider Poetry

For I will consider how my rumbling mind quiets over a lovely poem

For poetry is the way for me to feel comfort in a space that doesn't feel like home

For at the beginning I will be hesitant, wondering, yet a little more complete inside

For this is why I will remain quiet underneath the branches of swinging trees, in order to understand what it means to belong with poetry

For then I will start to know that I'm not the only one still crying

For having authors around the world know me without actually knowing me is like releasing years of weight upon my shoulders

For this is how I know I am not alone in a world full of broken people aimlessly pretending to feel

For first I never knew poetry was a warmth beneath its words

For secondly I never knew how poetry was the motherhood I had been missing

For thirdly I never knew how poetry was the brother I wanted to love me differently

For fourthly I never knew poetry was the best friend that never left me

For sixthly I never knew poetry was my whole family

For seventh poetry is the addiction streaming within me
